Moreover, though ITAM has been about for a long time, some very loose interpretations claim IT asset management (ITAM). But, to be honest, the term asset management has various meanings depending upon the audience.

When it appears to IT assets, we are specifically referring to those assets that enable the business's IT side to run. In some cases, IT assets might not be managed by IT because today, it is limited to find a place that doesn't have hardware and software supporting its company to run enhanced efficiently.

The four principal IT assets that are maintained are:

  1. Software

  2. Hardware

  3. The Cloud

  4. Mobile devices

The kinds of IT Asset Management are:

  • Physical: The process and inventory of hardware, including PCs, laptops, copiers, printers, and any other device utilized for IT and data management purposes.

  • Digital: The ITAM tracking of videos, photos, and digital data, includes scanned hard copies.

  • Software: Perhaps one of the common confusing and arduous IT asset management fields is licensing requirements, compliance issues, ShadowIT (IT existing installed and used without IT management knowledge), and IoT (the Internet of Things - smart appliances, Smart TVs, even toys). This field of ITAM is one that needs to be diligently followed, examined continuously, and must be fluid to meet the desires of the company, its leadership, and the changing market.

  • Mobile: Also, a difficult ITAM task, mobile device, and data handle include not only efficient applicability but also sufficient security measures. Mobile devices are managed more and more in the field, regardless of the business, you are in. With that in mind, they are also the most exposed to Shadow IT. If your employees begin downloading apps, even if the app is beneficial and can profit the company, it should be examined and approved by the IT management director or partners based on its IT policies.

  • Cloud: While it would resemble that managing the Cloud would be like controlling the wind, IT asset management of Cloud elements is achievable and protected. Use of the Cloud may reduce the need for other hardware (servers) and software (licensing issues), not only saving you funds but keeping data more friendly at all times.
